Could someone else keep things running for a month?
In most homes, one person knows where everything is: the accounts, the insurance, the passwords, which bills pay themselves and which don’t.
If that’s you, the Household Handoff gets it out of your head and onto paper. If your partner handles all of it, it’s a gentle way to start the conversation. And if you live on your own, someone would still need to step in, and this gives them a place to start.
How it works
Sit down together and pick one section. You don’t have to do it all at once.
Write “need to create” next to anything missing, so you know what to come back to.
Store it somewhere safe, and make sure more than one person knows where it is.
What’s inside
Eight short sections plus a quick-reference page:
✔ Your personal information: the details someone may need if they’re helping manage things for you
✔ Key contacts: doctors, your employer, financial advisors, and attorneys

✔ Employer information: benefits, HR contacts, and workplace accounts
✔ Financial information: bank, credit, and investment accounts, and who can access them
✔ Insurance: what’s covered and who the beneficiaries are
✔ Digital life: your password manager, devices, and who has emergency access
✔ Secure storage: what’s kept where, and who knows how to find it
✔ Quick reference: who to call first

Frequently asked questions
-
It’s designed to be printed and kept somewhere secure, so it isn’t sitting online. Many people keep a copy in two safe places. You don’t need to write down full account numbers or passwords. What matters is that the people who’d need to step in know what exists and where to find it.
-
Couples, singles, and anyone who shares a household, owns a home, or would want someone they trust to be able to step in.
-
No. The Household Handoff is an organizer. It helps you keep track of your information and documents, but it doesn’t replace documents like a power of attorney. If you'd like someone to be able to act for you, documents like a financial or healthcare power of attorney are commonly used for that.
