Hi, I’m Katie, founder of Mitzi.

For most of my career, I’ve helped individuals and families protect their futures as a trust and estates attorney at a top law firm and JPMorgan. Estate planning is often seen as technical and dry, but at its heart, it's personal and emotional — something most people only truly understand when they need it.

The process itself is also complex and overwhelming. Many delay or avoid it due to the time, cost, and confusion involved. Estate planning isn’t taught in school, and unless you have a lawyer in the family, most people don’t realize they need it until it’s too late.

Sadly, too many people learn about estate planning only during a crisis, especially women, who live longer and are often left to manage everything during tough times. While my wealthy clients had teams of advisors, my own friends and family were left to figure it out alone. I got constant texts like: “Do I need a will?” “How exactly do I get one?” “What about my cat?” And my personal recurring favorite from my mother: “Where are our files?!”

I realized that people don’t need an army of professionals. They need a trusted guide to help them understand the process, tackle the details, and navigate the emotional decisions. That’s why I created Mitzi: a solution that makes estate planning easier, more accessible, and empowering.

I’m so excited to share Mitzi with you and hear your thoughts.

With gratitude,

Katie Katz

The Estate Planning Gap: Time for Change

The estate planning industry isn’t built to serve the majority of Americans, which is why 70% of people don’t have a plan, and half of them don’t even realize they need one.

This is a huge issue because estate planning is critical to growing, preserving, and transitioning generational wealth, autonomy, and control. The gap is especially urgent for women.  We’re living longer, increasingly single, and balancing more caregiving responsibilities while independently earning, managing, and inheriting wealth. In fact, women are expected to inherit $84 trillion by 2045. And yet, women still own and keep just 32 cents for every dollar owned and kept by men.

The emotional toll is just as stark: women bear 80% of the administrative and emotional burden when someone passes or becomes incapacitated. And although 80% of women want more financial control, only 30% feel confident navigating these decisions.

Despite having the most at stake, many women feel ignored or intimidated by traditional financial and legal systems and avoid proactive planning for themselves and loved ones. I’ve seen this firsthand—with well-resourced clients overwhelmed by the process, and with friends and family who express constant anxiety about their future responsibilities and lack of preparedness.

My hope is that Mitzi can help change this, one person at a time.

The Original Boss Lady

Mitzi is named after my grandmother Mildred—affectionately known as “the boss.” A sharp-minded bookkeeper and the keeper of our family’s stories, recipes, and traditions, she balanced head and heart in everything she did. With quiet strength and meticulous care, she reminded us that being prepared isn’t scary—it’s an act of love.

From ironing the dollar bills in birthday cards to making sure every document was in place, she led by example—protecting our family through thoughtful planning and unwavering attention to detail.

Her legacy is the inspiration behind Mitzi: a tool for living that channels the wisdom of women like her to equip a new generation with the knowledge, confidence, and community support they need to protect what matters most.

Our Beliefs

At Mitzi, we believe in life and legacy planning.

It’s not just about what we own, but who and what we care about, and the legacy we leave behind. For us, this is about more than modernizing estate planning — it’s about building a solution that meets all of your planning needs, from the technical ones to the emotional ones, with respect and consideration.
